SubmitCR Minerals SafSil® and Navajo Brand pumice grades are widely used in the paint and coatings industry. The low density and unique particle morphology of the vitreous pumice imparts many desirable properties to paint formulations.
SafSil® Products
SafSil® products are high performance functional fillers that contain less than 0.1 % respirable crystalline silica. SafSil® may be used successfully to replace many common fillers such as ground silica, nepheline syenite, calcium carbonate, and talc. “Green” paints may be produced with SafSil® because it is an all-natural material. SafSil® is used in both water and solvent borne systems.
The use of pumice in cosmetics scrubs is well established. Navajo Brand pumice can be used in exfoliating facial, body, and foot scrubs. The pumice particles provide an excellent exfoliating medium, which gently removes dead and rough skin, leaving it fresh and revitalized. The mild abrasive nature of Navajo Brand pumice makes it an ideal polishing aid to finish acrylic dentures. It is also used in oral hygiene pastes, prophy pastes, and teeth polishing compounds.
The mild abrasive and polishing nature of Navajo Brand pumice has many diverse cleaning and abrasive applications. Navajo Brand pumice with a Mohs Hardness of 5.5 – 6.0, together with its wide range of controlled particle sizes, offers superior performance in the most critical abrasive environments and allows formulation flexibility in cleaning products including hand cleaners, glass and ceramic stove top cleaners, and liquid multi-surface cleaners. Automobile cleaners, rubbing compounds, waxes and polishes also prefer Navajo Brand pumice.
Mine Pumice from CR Minerals is widely used in the construction industry and is a preferred lightweight aggregate. Applications include concrete block, manufactured stone veneer, lightweight structural concrete, insulating concrete, masonry products, plaster aggregate, and loose fill insulations.
Pumice is widely used around the world in both cartridge and open multi-media filter applications including drinking water facilities, wastewater facilities, large industrial complexes, desalination, and seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO). In cartridge filters, pumice can replace sand, zeolites, and carbon based filter media. In multi-media filters, pumice effectively replaces anthracite coal, sand, and other conventional granular media.
Pumice is sought after and used in a wide variety of horticulture applications due to its lightweight, porous nature, and hardness. Some of these applications include organic soil mixtures, seed coating, landscaping, and Green Roof Systems.
CR Minerals offers several grades of Tephra® to serve the construction and oil and gas industries as a natural pozzolan and alternative to fly ash. Natural pumice pozzolan was the key ingredient in Roman concrete and has proven to last thousands of years. Pumice pozzolan is also used in Decorative Concrete, Concrete Countertops, and Concrete Pools.
Pumice can be used for enhancing the physical properties of rubber and plastics manufacturing.
